By the time you need an oxygen tank for emphysema and you're still smoking, the concept of 'self-inflicted injury' really makes some sense, doesn't it?
Back in the 70s, I assisted at a public forum to help people give up smoking where a video of a man (cancer patient) smoking through the throat (tracheotomy entry point?) was shown as an example of entrenched addictive behaviour. Go figure!
And if you're end-stage ie dying, the infamous 'what's the point of stopping now' rings out.
BTW Why can't the partner without emphyema give up smoking to help the one he supposedly loves (my sister) who does have a heart condition et al?
So, what is the ultimate best reason to cease?
